Who are we?

EKUBS is a registered charity, founded in 1978, and is virtually the only one of its kind in Britain.

Today, more women than ever before are surviving breast cancer. Evidence has shown that regular screening has contributed to this.

We arrange a subsidised personal screening service in East Kent, for symptomless ladies.

Once you have had a screening with us, we will remind you when your next one is due. It is important to tell us of any change of address.

Ladies above the age of 40 can be screened at a cost of £35 by fully qualified radiographers at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, and the Kent & Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury. (Please see section in “Our Service” referring to ages covered by the NHS)

We are also major providers of equipment that was not available to the Margate & Canterbury hospitals under NHS funding. £639,000 worth of equipment has been donated to the end of July 2017.

Fund raising helpers and volunteers are always welcome.

Why are we here?

The charity was founded by Mrs Rose Cunningham, to provide a pioneering screening service to ladies in East Kent, where none existed at that time.

Since then the NHS has introduced the Forrest Breast Screening Programme.

EKUBS will continue to offer breast screening whenever the NHS does not, and to update equipment at the hospitals in East Kent.
